Outreach

Charitable giving is an important part of our life as Christians. We provide support to a range of charities and campaigns by making financial donations and offering materials, equipment and time. In particular, we support the following organisations:

Aberlour – Scotland’s Children’s Charity
Aberlour helps children, young people and their families in Scotland to cope with major obstacles such as disability, exclusion, parental drug and alcohol dependency and family breakdown. For many years the collection at our annual Christmas Eve Christingle Service was for Aberlour.

Barnardo’s RAFT Project
RAFT works directly with looked-after children who are under the care of the City of Edinburgh Council. It provides a residential placement to children of primary school age who do not live with their birth family and are not ready to be placed with a foster family or return home. Holy Cross donated funds from our 2011 Christmas collections to RAFT. The manager of RAFT spoke to our Youth Group to help the young people prepare a presentation for the Christingle Service.

Bethany Christian Trust
Bethany provides a variety of services to stop people being homeless and stop people becoming homeless.

The Bishop of Edinburgh’s Lent Appeal
Each year Holy Cross raises funds for the Bishop’s Lent Appeal.

Christian Aid
Christian Aid’s vision is for an end to poverty. We support their important work throughout the year in various ways.

Edinburgh City Mission
ECM brings hope to many who live, work, and visit Edinburgh, through caring and sharing the message of Jesus Christ. We support the Mission by asking members to donate non-perishable foods such as tinned goods, tea, coffee and cereals, and hygiene items like shampoo and toothpaste, to their Basics Bank. Gifts by the door in church are delivered to ECM.

Fight for Sight
Funds raised by our 2011 Summer Fête were donated to this medical charity.

Fresh Start
Fresh Start is an Edinburgh charity that helps people who have been homeless get established in their new home. We support them by asking members to donate basic household items such as crockery, cutlery, pots and pans, cleaning items and bed linen and towels. You can also donate electrical items in reasonably good condition. For more information email info@holycrossedinburgh.org.

Leprosy Mission Scotland
Members are encouraged to keep postage stamps and fill the collection jar kept near the door in church. The stamps are periodically donated to the Leprosy Mission.

The Mothers’ Union Scotland
This charity has a close association with the Scottish Episcopal Church.

Pilton Youth & Children’s Project
PYCP provides a range of services and activities for 5-18 year-olds in the Greater Pilton area through its clubs and groups. Holy Cross donated funds from our 2014 Christmas services and activities for this charity.

Scottish Bible Society
There is jar by the door in church for members to donate coppers to the Bible Society. It is surprising how much is collected in this small but continuous way.

Shelter Scotland
Holy Cross donated funds from part of the 2011 Christmas collections to this charity.

Gift Aid
If you are a tax payer and would like to start using Gift Aid to increase the value of your giving without cost to yourself, please speak to Tim Sale or email  info@holycrossedinburgh.org.
